What the pathology report describes
Histopathology examines tissue; cytology examines cells. The report records what was found in the submitted sample and may include additional tests. A pathology diagnosis answers a different question from an imaging category such as BI-RADS.
Reading the report with the imaging
The care team considers whether the laboratory finding explains the area that was sampled. Ask whether the results fit together and what the next step is. A reassuring phrase in one report should not be interpreted without that context.
